Chapter 16 – What’s this!

Grammar point: the neuter demonstrative adjective esto.

Nilton and Pepe go to the staff room for a snack.

Pepe:           ¡Oh! Es tiempo del refrigerio ¡Vamos!
Nilton:          ¡Finalmente!
Pepe:           Para beber, hay café, té y agua.
Nilton:         ¿Para comer?
Pepe:            Hay frutas, pan, mantequilla y queso.

When they arrive, the snack is on the table. Taiko, Pepe’s son, joins them minutes later. They are having a good time when Miss Violeta, the manager, enters.

Nilton:          ¡Hola Taiko!
Pepe:            ¡Hola hijo!
Taiko:           Hola, hola, ¿cómo va todo?
Nilton:         Todo bien, ¿café?

Taiko is about to grab a cup of coffee but…

Violeta:   ¡Qué es esto!
Nilton:         ¿Eh?
Pepe:         ¿Refrigerio?
Violeta:     ¡Son las nueve y media de la mañana!
